flex Studios Performance Groups

At flex Studios our Performance Groups are some of our most committed and supportive dancers and families.  flex Studios directors and faculty are lucky to spend multiple hours with Performance Group members during our performing season. With that said a serious commitment is required for these dancers. Below you will find both descriptions and requirements for all Performance Groups offered at flex Studios. Each description will offer details about class times, levels, age requirements, faculty, payment policy, and attire. Performance Group Requirements

•Performance Groups run a 10 Month performing session, September through June, with additional performance commitments in summer 2020.

•All Performance Groups participate in all three (3), high quality, professional year-end concerts and select performance groups participate in annual flex Studios benefit concert.

•Performance Groups receive extra performance opportunities throughout the community during the 10 month session, with additional performance opportunities during congruent summer.

•All Performance Group members will receive and sign a list of expectations and are held to the highest standards when representing flex Studios within the studio and community.

•Performance Groups observe all major holiday breaks and meet once a week for 45-90 minutes depending on Performance Group placement.

•Performance Groups are open for enrollment through September unless otherwise noted by director.

•All Performance Groups are required to enroll in our ACH Monthly Automatic Payment for all tuition and fees associated with studio policies.

•Performance Groups may have more than one piece of choreography, therefore additional costume expense or fundraising may be required.

•All Performance Groups will have a concert fee of $80.00 automatically deducted per piece on November 1st.

•Performance Group members are subject to extra cost of member uniform and footwear.  A uniform jacket fee is due at registration unless they are a returning member and have required uniform jacket.  A new bottom will be assigned each performing season.

•Performance Group members are required to participate in at least one fundraiser per season.

•Performance Group members are required to take a secondary technique class based on technical requirements for group.

•Performance Groups are based on instructor approval, ability, level and invitation by group director.  Please note that directors have final say on placement of each group member.

Demi Pointe Performance Group™ is a intermediate contemporary based Performance Group.

This performance group is a technically trained, visually powerful, emotionally invested group that continues to captivate their audiences. Each year they push their performance art beyond any expectation previously set. Members are required to have at least 3 full years of Ballet technique training and 4 years contemporary or modern movement experience.

Placement
Placement in a Performance Group is based on the following criteria; technique, potential, commitment level, enthusiasm, attitude, in class behavior, positive community image, positive social media presence, class attendance, stage presence and director approval is required.


Attendance
Attendance and positive attitude are key components to maintaining a position as a member of Demi Pointe Performance Group™. Just as sports teams require all players to attend practices, performance groups require their dancers to attend all classes and rehearsals. Each dancer is allowed up to two unexcused absences. Being sick is always excused and we encourage dancers to stay home and heal.


Commitment
Demi Pointe Performance Group™ runs September through June with a commitment to the Lane County Fair in July 2020.


This group will participate in flex Studios annual benefit concert and all 3 end of the year flex Studios concerts June 19th, 20th & 21st. In addition they will participate in 2-5 additional performance opportunities throughout the community during the 2019-2020 season.


Each member is required to enrolled in Performance Group Ballet.


Members are required to purchase the flex Studios contemporary performance group uniform including proper footwear, group jacket and contemporary bottom. Uniform fees are due at first class.


All members are required to enroll in our ACH automatic tuition and adhere to tuition studio polices. Performance Group performance fees are due November 1st and automatically deducted via ACH platform.

Demi Flex Performance Group

Demi Flex Performance Group™ is a intermediate contemporary based Performance Group.

This performance group is technically trained, socially supportive and has training in professional performance etiquette. Demi flex dancers are seasoned dancers that maintain a commitment to continuous training. This bonded group of dancers are expected to embody the highest level of integrity within the studio. Members are required to have at least 3 full years of Ballet technique training and 4 years contemporary movement experience.

Placement in a Performance Group is based on the following criteria; technique, potential, commitment level, enthusiasm, attitude, in class behavior, positive community image, positive social media presence, class attendance, stage presence and director approval is required.

Flexin' Free-Stylers Performance Group™ is a teen/adult hip hop performance group.

This performance group is designed for the dancer looking for a more serious commitment to continuing ones hip hop dance & culture education. At flex we take seriously the education aspect of all genres of dance. Director & instructor Lindsey Shields ensures fresh dynamic age appropriate movement and music. The Flexin' Free-Stylers Performance Group™will also receive training and choreography from one guest artist per season.

Funky Fresh Flexers Performance Group

Funky Fresh Flexers Performance Group is a hip hop performance group ages 8+.

This performance group is designed as the next advancing level from The Biggie Smalls Performance Group™. As members advance their level of dance technique they will start to learn choreography faster with more accurate execution. The Funky Fresh Flexers are dynamic movers, high energy, and talented up and coming dancers.

Hip Hop was born in the 70’s in the Bronx, New York. It was a way for the oppressed, underserved youth to express and empower themselves, feel validated, gain respect, connect with each other, and have fun. Most importantly at flex, we encourage all our group members to connect with each other and their community.

Petit Battement Performance Group

Petit Battement Performance Group™ is a beginner/intermediate contemporary based performance group.

This performance group is the first step in our contemporary performance group experience. Petit Battement choreographer Miss Ashley is as gifted as they come. This is an unapologetically fierce and passionate group of young dancers. Members are required to have a minimum of 1 year of ballet and/or contemporary or modern movement.

Placement
Placement in a Performance Group is based on the following criteria; technique, potential, commitment level, enthusiasm, attitude, in class behavior, positive community image, positive social media presence, class attendance, stage presence and director approval is required.

Attendance

Attendance and positive attitude are key components to maintaining a position as a member of the Petit Battement Performance Group™. Just as sports teams require all players to attend practices, performance groups require their dancers to attend all classes and rehearsals. Each dancer is allowed up to two unexcused absences. Being sick is always excused and we encourage dancers to stay home and heal.

Commitment

Petit Battement Performance Group™ runs September through June with a commitment to the Lane County Fair in July 2020.

This group will participate in all 3 end of the year flex Studios concerts June 19th, 20th & 21st. In addition they will participate in 2-5 additional performance opportunities throughout the community during the 2019-2020 season.

Each member is required to enrolled in Youth Ballet or Beginning Ballet.

Members are required to purchase the flex Studios contemporary performance group uniform including proper footwear, group jacket and contemporary bottom. Uniform fees are due at first class.

FLAPtastic Performance Group

The FLAPtastic Performance Group is a intermediate tap based performance group.

This performance group is hard at work developing intricate rhythms, style, and inspire a new generation of tappers. Tappers will learn a variety of tap styles from broadway to rhythm tap with a focus on rhythm tap for performances. These students progress together while creating art that becomes increasingly more complex and intricate. Members are required to have a minimum of 3 years tap training.

Placement
Placement in a Performance Group is based on the following criteria; technique, potential, commitment level, enthusiasm, attitude, in class behavior, positive community image, positive social media presence, class attendance, stage presence and director approval is required.

Attendance
Attendance and positive attitude are key components to maintaining a position as a member of FLAPtastic Performance Group™. Just as sports teams require all players to attend practices, performance groups require their dancers to attend all classes and rehearsals. Each dancer is allowed up to two unexcused absences. Being sick is always excused and we encourage dancers to stay home and heal.

Commitment
Demi Flex Performance Group™ runs September through June with a commitment to the Lane County Fair in July 2020.

Biggie Smalls Performance Group™ is a youth hip hop performance group ages 7+.

This performance group is designed for the hard working kiddo that is looking for the next step to advancing their hip hop movement skills. From toprocks to in class education about breakdancing pioneers like the Rock Steady Crew, these dancers will learn about all aspects of hip hop at flex Studios.

Biggie X-Smalls Performance Group™ is a beginner dancer hip hop performance group ages 3-7.

This performance group is designed for the funky, fabulous, high energy kiddo that loves to boogie but is looking for a more serious performance commitment. These dancers will learn fundamental hip hop movement and start building the foundations of hip hop culture with eduction in more than just dance movement.

Parallel Performance Group

Parallel Performance Group™ is a advanced beginner youth modern based performance group ages 6-13.

This performance group is designed for the young dancer to express themselves through the beautiful dance genre of Modern dance. As flex Studios debut performance group, we are looking for passionate dancers who will find acceptance through this genre. Modern is a form of contemporary movement employing a special technique for developing the use of the entire body in movements expressive of abstract ideas. Parallel Performance Group allows young, motivated dancers to find their voice and movement style in a safe and creative environment.

Attendance

Attendance and positive attitude are key components to maintaining a position as a member of Parallel Performance Group™. Just as sports teams require all players to attend practices, performance groups require their dancers to attend all classes and rehearsals. Each dancer is allowed up to two unexcused absences. Parallel Performance Group™ runs September through June with a commitment to the Lane County Fair in July 2020.

Performance Group Ballet

This 90 min. ballet class is mandatory for Demi Pointe, Demi Flex and The flex Studios competition group. As one of flex Studios most advanced placement classes a director approval and 4 years of previous training is required.

Ballet for Performance Groups maintains an emphasis on proper vocabulary, body placement, technique, weight distribution, follow through, lines and facility. Attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet, developing movement sequences, port de bras and balance. In addition, use of the head and upper body, fluidity of port de bras, and intricacies of petite and grand jumps will be covered.

Uniform Requirements

Staying with the tradition of ballet education and technique a mandatory uniform is required.

Hair should be secured in a bun, up and off the face and neck.

Dancers identifying as female wear black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes.

Dancers identifying as male wear fitted white dance tee shirt, black tights and black ballet shoes.

Gender non-conforming or gender-questioning dancers should wear the dress requirements that makes them feel most comfortable.

All body types welcome.

Performance Group Agreement&expectation

Performance & Competition Groups hold a prestigious place within our studio.  Members are selected for their talent, merit, intellect, and passion.  As Performance/Competition Group members receive extra opportunities, we expect all members to take their commitment seriously.  This agreement honors each members expectation and acknowledges each dancer as a performance/competition group member. Below are expectations created by directors, faculty, and past members.

Attendance & Commitment

Our Performance/Competition Groups are a group effort. Just as sports teams require all players to attend practices, dance groups require their dancers to attend all classes and rehearsals. Absences will not only affect the individual dancer, but the group as a whole.  Each dancer is allowed up to two unexcused absences from performance/competition group classes and rehearsals. Excused absences must receive prior approval from the director.  Advance notice of absence does not mean it is excused. Members will watch company class/rehearsal in the case of injury. These same rules apply to all other classes. Dance requires consistent ongoing training, and dancers who excessively miss classes will not be able to perform at the same level as those who have attended all classes regularly.  Punctuality is just as important as attendance, please be on time and prepared for class.

Courtesy & Respect

All Performance/Competition Group members will be held to the highest standards of conduct and ettiequte. Communicating negatively about anyone in or outside of our studio will not be tolerated. Performance/Competition Group members are expected to show courtesy and respect to all faculty members and peers. Any student who exhibits repeat negative or disrespectful behavior will be asked to leave Performance/Competition Groups. flex Studios expectation of their dancers is to always be respectful, supportive, encouraging and positive. A positive attitude, spirit and non-judgmental behavior is a must.

Dress Code

All Performance/Competition Group Members must wear appropriate dance wear to every class. Forgetting dance wear, shoes, proper hair and/or wearing inappropriate clothing is not acceptable. Hair must be securely pulled up for every class. Jewelry and accessories are not permitted while in class.

Last but not Least

Do not forget to have fun! You will gain a lifetime of great memories and friendships during this time, enjoy every second. Be kind to one another and always support your fellow dancers. Remember to dance full out, practice at home and share your love of the art with family and friends. We strive to make this the most positive and rewarding experience for our dancers and look forward to having another incredible and exciting dance season!!
